Tell us about yourself
I’ve just joined Charter Australia after teaching IELTS/Cambridge Exam preparation courses and General English at a number of schools in Sydney since 2013.
I’ve lived in Australia since 2011 and originally come from the UK. I’m married, have two children and a lovely dog!

先生の事を教えてくさだい。
Charter Australiaで教える前は、シドニー数校でIELTS/ケンブリッジの試験準備コースと一般英語を教えていました。イギリス出身で、2011年からオーストラリアに移住。結婚し、二人の子供とかわいい犬がいます。

What made you want to start teaching English?
I had worked in various roles in Health + Social Care in the UK but moving to Australia gave me the opportunity to do something new．

英語を教えるようになったきっかけは何ですか？
イギリスでは、健康とソーシャルケアの分野で様々な役割の仕事をしてきました。オーストラリアに来て新しい事をする機会（英語を教える機会）を得たことがきっかけです。

What do you love about teaching?
I love meeting new students and learning why they’ve decided to learn English. Everybody’s story is different, and most students work as hard to achieve their goals – studying, working and looking after families. I love watching them improve and grow in confidence.

先生をしていて楽しいと感じることは何ですか？
新しい学生に会い、なぜ英語を学ぶ事にしたのか知る事が好きです。皆さん違ったストーリーがあり、勉強、仕事、家族の世話をしながら、ゴールに辿り着くを達成為にとても努力をしています。学生たちが向上し、自信を高めていく姿をみるのが好きです。

What is something you value when teaching?
I value students who are motivated and determined to improve their English skills

教えるときに大事にしていることはありますか。
英語のスキルを上る為に、やる気と決意を持つ事が大切だと思います。

Is there something you have noticed in Japanese students in particular when teaching?
Sometimes Japanese students are a little quiet. They should have more confidence in their abilities and skills. There is no need to be shy in the classroom.

日本人学生に教える際、何か気づいた事はありますか？
日本人学生は少し静かです。自分の能力とスキルに自信を持ちましょう。クラスルームで恥ずかしがる必要はありません。

What do you enjoy doing outside of your career(teaching)?
I enjoy traveling – I’ve still got lots of new places I want to visit in Australia and Asia. Otherwise, I love the cinema and walking my dog.

仕事以外に好きな事はありますか？
旅行が好きです。オーストラリアでもまだ行った事がない場所やアジアに行きたいです。他には、映画と犬の散歩が好きです。

What message would you like to deliver to students?
Work hard, speak English at every opportunity and you will make progress quickly. Try and talk to a stranger in English at least once a day – your speaking and listening skills will quickly improve!

学生に伝えたいメッセージは？
一生懸命学び、機会がある毎に英語を話せば、早く進歩します。最低でも一日に一度、外で出会った人と話をしましょう。スピーキングとリスニング力が早く身につきます。

やはり少しでも英語を話す機会を増やす事が、英語を早く上達させるコツですね。

コーヒーをテイクアウェイする時やバスや電車を待っている間など、周囲の人と何か一言でも話して会話を楽しんでみましょう。
