COMPLAINT vs. CLAIM   不平（不満） VS. 要求、請求

To complain (verb) is to say that you are not happy about something or not satisfied with something.　A complaint (noun) is a statement of this kind or something you complain about.　To claim (verb) money, property, etc. that is yours or that you think someone owes you is to make an official request for it.　A claim (noun) is an official request of this kind or the amount of money being requested.

• complain （動詞）は、何かについて不愉快に思っている、または満足していないと述べる、つまり、不平（不満）を言う、という意味です。

  名詞形は complaint で、このような発言や不平（不満）を言う対象、つまり、不平（不満）のことです。

  claim （動詞）は、自分が所有する金銭や財産、または、誰かが自分から借りていると思われるものなどについて、公式の要求をする、つまり、要求する、請求する、という意味です。

  名詞形も claim で、このような公式の要求や、またはその請求額をさすなど、つまり、要求、請求のことです。

　EXAMPLE 1　：It took almost 40 minutes for us to get our order, so I complained to the manager about the slow service.  

　EXAMPLE 2　：We've received a number of complaints about defective parts.

　EXAMPLE 3　：Receipts must be attached when submitting claims for reimbursement of travel expenses.

    EXAMPLE 4　：I'm filing a claim against my broker for $5,000 that I lost due to their mismanagement of my account.

日本語でも「コンプレ」や「クレーム」などといいますが、ここには違いがあるので、しっかり違いを把握し使い分けられると良いですね。
