I travel on trains in Sydney a lot, and have picked up a few time and money saving tips. For saving money, did you know that all rail tickets are much cheaper after 9am? So if you can avoid traveling in peak hour, you can save money. With any ticket to the city you can get on or off at any station in the city circle. So effectively it’s a city day pass. But, it is more expensive than a ticket to your closest individual station in the city. If you’re trying to save money, buy a ticket directly to Circular Quay or Central, but if you have things to do over the day in different places across the city, a city ticket is very useful. To save a bit of time, make a note of where the exits are when you get off the train. Then you don’t have to walk as far along the platform. For most city platforms, the second and second-last train carriage are best. If you are traveling on weekends, especially Saturdays, you should give yourself extra time to get to your destination.
